What is Happiness? Read What Spiritualists Say

Ultimately, we all want to be happy.

But how do you define happiness? And why, when nothing tangible in your life has changed, how can you suddenly feel as if it’s eluding you?

We explore the beliefs of psychics and spiritualists through the ages to throw some light on this eternal question.

True happiness doesn’t revolve around material possessions or even friends and loved ones

Before we discuss what happiness is, a few words on what it isn’t.

Perhaps you’ve worked hard all your life in order to buy the bigger house, the nicer car, the luxury holiday. Yet the more you gain, the less contented you feel.

Or maybe your life revolves around your dearest friends and loved ones, and you feel bereft if they somehow change or move away and out of your life.

You could even be overindulging in drugs or alcohol, but the temporary highs that they provide seem more meaningless as time goes on.

If you’re looking for happiness in any of these things, your search can only end in disappointment. It’s hard to hear and harder still to comprehend, but everything in this world is temporary.

But don’t worry, we’re not saying that there’s no such thing as happiness!

The key to a happy life is turning your attention to your soul

That’s what Socrates thought, in any case, at the outset of western philosophy.

He believed that by harmonising your desires and turning your attention away from your physical body and towards your immortal soul, you’d achieve tranquillity.

Ultimately then, happiness is inextricably linked to the meaning of human existence. Socrates trusted in the eternal soul and, as a result, wasn’t afraid to die.

Happiness is about learning to let go

According to the Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu – and many psychics and spiritualists since – you need to let go: ‘When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.’

In other words, if you’re searching for happiness, part of the journey is about letting life flow naturally and acknowledging that there are some things that are beyond your control.

If you’re able to let go of things in your life that cause you pain or sorrow, you’ll take huge strides on your spiritual journey towards finding true happiness.

‘Happiness is your choice to make’

Mystic and psychic Edgar Cayce believed that true happiness is a choice. It’s all about your state of mind and doesn’t relate to your material possessions. In other words, your thoughts create your reality.

Spiritual teacher Sonia Choquette agrees. She believes that you’re responsible for your own choices, thoughts and needs and that – with spiritual help and guidance – you can awaken your spirit and transform your life experience from one of fear to one of joy.

You’ll only feel whole and complete if you listen to the messages of your soul

Ultimately, we’re back where we started. Renowned psychic Tana Ray agrees with Socrates. He believes that if you’re feeling dissatisfied or unhappy with your life, you should take it as a sign to focus on your soul.

Your guardian angels will guide you on your journey of discovery, revealing the truth of life. That you’re not ‘a body with a spirit’ but a ‘spiritual being living temporarily inside a body.

Ultimately then, if you’re searching for happiness, you need to turn your attention inwards rather than outwards.

Having positive energy – for example by being grateful for the air that you breathe and the beautiful world that you inhabit – and focusing on your soul’s spiritual journey will help you find happiness.

As psychic counsellor Erin Pavlina says, ‘happiness isn’t about what you have or what you’re doing.’ It’s a ‘state of being that is completely controlled by your own thoughts and beliefs.’

Happiness starts within yourself. Happiness starts with positivity. If we want happiness we have to make that happen ourselves.

'a spiritual being temporarily living inside a body'; what is your view of Dr Tom Wright's assertion that our final home is not in heaven or the real of spirit but in a recreated, transformed earth? He is held to be one of the world's foremost biblical scholars.

We are all searching for it. It depends on one's mental status and strength. Sometimes it's easy to say for the others but when people go thru a rough stage it can be very hard to calm your mind and stay happy. Life is a path of ups and downs. It's not easy to have a positive mind all the time but articles like this helps definitely.
